XML Capture Job

Capture Job allows users to capture or import documents to Content Central using XML files as a document descriptor for each document to capture.

XML Capture Job Document Descriptor


Catalog Names to use should be based on the ‘Catalog’ configured in Content Central.

Document Type Names to use should be based on the ‘Document Types’ configured in Content Central, matching the ‘Catalog’.

Field Names to use should be fields configured in Content Central under the Catalog and Document Type.

Special Characters in XMLs


For the Special Character in the field value, please use the Substitution Text in the XML file.

Special Character: &
Substitution Text: &
Example: For ‘AT&T’, use ‘AT&T’

Types of XML

Image XML file

When using Image XML file, the file to import is expected to be image files (PDF, JPG, TIFF, other image files). The image files will be processed for OCR, and will be converted to a PDF file in Content Central


Electronic XML file

When using Electronic XML File, the file to import will NOT be processed for OCR, and will be imported to Content Central as is.




Steps to Capture Documents using Capture Jobs with XML Document Descriptor


  1. Configure a Monitored Folder Capture Job that is set with XML Document Descriptor.
  2. Create a matching XML file for each document file to capture.
  3. Capture a new document. Save the document file and it's matching XML file in the Incoming Folder. Momentarily, the document file and the XML file will disappear.
  4. Login to Content Central as user with the permission to VIEW documents from the Catalog and Document Type in the XML.
  5. Go to ‘Folders Browser’. Locate or retrieve the document in the Folders Browser based on the Catalog, Document Type and Fields in the XML.
